Police officers in Kericho County are currently holding three suspects in connection with the alleged brutal killing of a 20-year-old taxi driver who was reported missing a week ago.
Kericho County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO), Stephen Chacha Magwe told the press on Wednesday that the body of the deceased, identified as Gideon Kipngeno Tonui, was found at Nyamache mortuary in Kisii County on March 11 after police launched an investigation following a report of a missing Probox driver.
He said that after the first suspect was arrested, he was interrogated upon which he led police to apprehend two others who were found using the missing Probox vehicle registration number KCJ 952H at Masaba area within Kuria district in Migori County. The vehicle is currently detained at Kericho police station.
Magwe added that the deceased was employed as a taxi driver operating the Kericho town-Brooke route and was reported missing by his family members on March 4 this year after he failed to return home and efforts to communicate with him proved futile as his phone remained switched off.
“Following the report of a missing person, police launched investigations and arrested a suspect in Nyagacho area, who led them to the other two suspects among them a woman who was arrested on 12th March in Masaba area within Kuria district in Migori County in the missing Probox motor vehicle. The deceased had only worked for two weeks,” added Magwe.
He said preliminary results revealed the cause of death to be strangulation.
Magwe said the three suspects will be arraigned in court today to face murder charges.
