Machakos County officers have arrested three traders who sell food at Ngolokoni area in Machakos town accusing them of posing a health risk to the people who buy their food.
Speaking after the arrest, Machakos town senior chief Joshua Kimeu cautioned the residents against buying food that has not been checked and approved by health officers, urging them to take food from ‘clean’ hotels.
“We have arrested three traders who have broken the law and continued to sell food on the roadside despite warning them,” said Kimeu.
“The ‘vibanda’ on the roadsides do not sell food inspected by health officers and are illegally hawking and selling food to residents that we will not allow as it puts Machakos residents health at stake,” said Kimeu
The senior chief further stated together with the officers, they are in the process of hunting down unlicensed alcohol sellers in the area.
“The county has invested a lot of money in improving the living standards of residents in this area including encouraging investment in restaurants and relaxation areas. The culprits pulling us back by selling health hazard brews and unlicensed alcohol will soon face the law,” he added.
The three were on Monday evening taken to Machakos police station, where they are expected to be arraigned in Court.
