Three people were arrested transporting over 150Kgs of zebra meat stacked in four sacks inside a vehicle in Kikuyu town.
Confirming the incident Kikuyu police boss Mutune Maweo said that they contacted the Kenya Wildlife Service officers who came to the scene and confirmed that it was zebra meat and they believed the zebra had been hunted and killed in Ewasogidoni.
"We were able to arrest three people who were with this meat. It is around 150kgs. We suspect the meat was to be distributed in Kikuyu or was en-route to another destination that we will find out," said Maweo.
The police boss, has as a result, asked residents to be more keen when buying meat while asking butchery owners to ensure that their meat is well checked by a Public Health Officer to ensure that it is fit for human consumption.
Maweo further gave a stern warning to the people who are in the habit of distributing butchers with game meat saying a decisive legal action will be taken against them.
"We will not spare anyone who is not only selling our people dangerous meat but also destroying our valued wildlife," said Maweo.
