Police in Molo on Thursday arrested three suspects after nabbing more than 150 litres of illicit brew in Casino area .

Among the arrested was two women and one man, with police estimating the liquor to be worth Sh50 000.

Molo assistant commissioner Hassan Ali said that his officers would continue with the operations to nab illicit brew in the area which still remained illegal.

“They should relocate or reform. They can go to Somalia or Uganda or any other part that is not Kenya. There is no place for them in the country. There is no relent. We will not allow the brewing of chang'aa or any other illicit brew in the area. It has cost us too much,” he added.

Ali, who also chairs the security committee, warned the brewers in the area alongside their customers that they had increased more security officials to fight against the brew.

He pegged the recent insecurity in the area to the increased cases of drinking, pointing out that the brews made them susceptible to attacks.

The move comes as residents expressed fears that the brew could be slowly creeping in the area.

They claimed that the number of people who had succumbed to death following consumption of the brew.

“This year alone we have buried eleven people due to complications from the drinks. The brewers are also given lenient sentences in court and can easily raise the cash,” said Peter Mwangi, a resident.
