Outgoing Senate Speaker Ekwee Ethuro and Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki, are the biggest losers in JP’s new parliamentary leadership. Also joining the list of high-profile losers is Taveta MP Naomi Shaban who served as Deputy Majority leader in the 11th Parliament. Shaban missed out completely on any House leadership position endorsed by Jubilee Party on Thursday.President Uhuru Kenyatta reorganisation of his parliamentary troops has seen some former office holders being retained, others promoted, while others have been dropped.According to the Friday Star, Ethuro was seen as disloyal, lacklustre in supporting Jubilee and Uhuru’s reelection.Kindiki, on the other hand, was shifted, not for any political shortcoming, but as part of regional balancing.Kindiki was the Majority leader in the last Senate, a position that made him an influential and powerful senator as he was in charge of driving the Jubilee agenda in Senate.Kindiki's 'redeployment' to the position of Deputy Speaker is widely seen as a demotion as he will have to play second fiddle to Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, his successor. The Constitution puts the Speaker, Leader of the Majority and Leader of Minority above the Deputy Speaker in the hierarchy order.Murkomen, a vocal ally and defender of Deputy President William Ruto, will now spearhead the Jubilee legislative agenda in the Upper House. This position puts him above all senators.
