Three people suspected to have kidnapped two high school girls were on Monday arraigned before an Eldoret court facing four counts of abduction, illegal confinement, defilement and committing an indecent act with a child.
The three - Anne Njeri, Paul Githinji and Peter Maina - appeared before Eldoret Principal Magistrate Harrison Barasa where they pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
According to court documents, the suspects are accused of jointly conspiring to lure two 17-year-old girls who are students of Ngeria Girls High School, Kapseret in Uasin Gishu.
They are accused of committing the crimes on diverse dates between October 9 and October 13 in Eldoret town.
The three are also accused of defiling the girls between October 9 and October 10 in Huruma estate in the outskirts of Eldoret.
During the taking of plea, Barasa asked the prosecution to amend the charge sheet and clarify whether all the counts facing the suspects were independent or alternative.
Lawyer to one of the suspects Paul Githinji, Stanley Kagunza sought for lenient bailout terms for his client saying noting that he was asthmatic.
"It will be in the interest of justice and my client's health that the amendments are done within the shortest time possible to ensure that he is out of custody," Kagunza told the court.
The suspects who were arrested Thursday last week in Limuru, Kiambu county remain in custody with their case set for mention today (Tuesday).
