Even as Kenyans look forward to the burial of former Cabinet Minister in the Kanu era Nicholas Biwott next week, three people were charged with trying to defraud unsuspecting clients Sh60 million, one of them pretending to be a son of the deceased politician.

Solomon Kiptanui, Margaret Jepchirchir and Milkah Cheruto are reported to have colluded to defraud Ibrahim Kassim Sh3 million cheating him that they would sell him trees grown on a 300-acre-piece belonging to the late Biwott in Maria Soti, Keiyo South Sub-County.

The trees are valued at over Sh60 million with Kiptanui said to have cheated Kassim that he was Biwott's son and was authorised to deal in family property.

The two others are accused of working with employees at the farm on which the trees are grown to cement the lie that Kiptanui was Biwott's son.

Kassim later found out that he was conned when Kiptanui refused to allow him to begin felling the trees on the farm after the Sh3 million deposit as agreed.

They were all released on a Sh1 million bond with the hearing set for for August 1.
