A sombre mood engulfed Green estate in Molo after three children died Wednesday night.
The three were burnt in their house after it caught fire during the wee hours of the night.
Neighbours said the three had been left asleep in the house by their mother.
A jiko is suspected to have caused the flames which razed the house to ashes.
One child died on the spot while the other two succumbed to injuries at the Nakuru General Hospital.
Patrick Mungai, a neighbour, said rescue efforts were futile as the door had been locked from inside.
Area chief Hassan Waweru said it was sad that a parent left children a lone with a burning jiko. He said police have launched investigations into the incident.
He also cautioned young parents against indulging in night life which make them leave kids a lone at night.
