Three persons have been confirmed dead in Machakos County. According to Daily Nation, the trio died in separate crashes on Monday night after being involved in accidents.

Four other persons were admitted after they sustained serious injuries.   Confirming both incidents, Machakos Base Commander Abdinasir Aron called upon residents to be cautious during this period. The first incident occurred on the newly constructed Konza-Katumani Road where one person died and four were left with serious injuries.

The victims were traveling in a vehicle that lost control and rolled into a nearby ditch. The second incident occurred when a motorbike ride and a passenger died instantly after they hitting an oncoming 14-seater matatu at Kathekakai on the Machakos - Nairobi road. The two were heading towards Machakos before they were involved in the accident. The occupants of the matatu escaped unhurt following the incident.

The accident comes at a time when the Lower Eastern Transporters Association has vowed to file a case against National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) following the ban of the night travel of public service vehicles.

The association’s chairman, Mr. Peter Mutuku, argued that the ban will not resolve the recent number of accidents being witnessed in the country. He has demanded the government to lift the ban with immediate effect.
