Despite unprecedented setback from the US and Britain, opposition leader Raila Odinga is said to be enjoying backup from three influential European countries.

With Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu having attended President Uhuru Kenyatta’s swearing-in, Washington DC and London joined the bandwagon having also sent congratulatory messages.

“We urge Kenyans to come together after these divisive elections that have even led to death. We also urge all political players to hold dialogue immediately,” read a statement from state department.

But a source who sorts anonymity says Germany Chancellor Angela Markel, Russia’s Vladir Puttin and French President Emmanuel Macron are all said to be solidly behind Odinga’s bid.

Publically, the three countries have not come out strongly on Uhuru’s re-election with the source saying they have issues with how Uhuru has been handling opposition supporters.

“We still have backing from Germany, France and Russia. Leave alone the US and Britain because they have been part of the system.

“They believe in subverting democracy but we believe our friends shall stand with us. No matter how long it takes, we are going to be there,” added the source.

In his response after Uhuru took oath, Odinga maintained that he will be sworn in on December 12th when Kenya celebrates Jamuhuri Day.
