Three family members were killed on Friday morning in an accident on their way to a relative's funeral in Kakamega.

According to the star, the accident occurred on Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

"Heavy rains have affected visibility but that the trailer's driver is to blame,"Jane Wambui said as quoted by the star.

"Two adults died at the scene while others were rushed to hospital in critical condition," she added.

An officer who did not want to be named said the third person - a minor - died at Naivasha sub-county hospital.

He said three people were in critical condition at the hospital.

Witness Jennifer Muthoni said the driver of the private car tried in vain to avoid the trailer.

He said the adults were thrown out of the car while others were trapped in the wreck.

“The trailer landed on the side of the road leading to a massive traffic jam,” she said.

Police have launched a search for the driver and towed the wreckage to Naivasha police station.

The accident comes barely a month after four mourners died near Gilgil weighbridge while on their way back to Nairobi from a funeral in Western.
