A court in Nakuru on Tuesday sentenced three middle-aged men to serve a death sentence, after they were found guilty of robbery with violence charges.
According to the prosecution, John Kariuki, 30, Isaac Kaka, 28, and David Kiptoo,33, conspired to violently rob John Kimtai of Sh19,000, a mobile phone valued at Sh3,000 and a radio machine worth Sh 2,000 at Neissut village in Njoro Sub-county within Nakuru County on the night of November 6, 2013.
The court had heard that the accused, while armed with crude weapons threatened to kill the complainant, and actually attacked him with the weapons, causing grievous bodily harm on him before robbing him.
Senior Resident Magistrate Judicaster Thuku, who presided over the ruling of the case, was told that the accused had also set the complainant’s house on fire using an old mattress material to cause confusion as they escaped from the scene of the crime.
The prosecution added that the complainant was assisted to get treatment from a local health clinic by neigbours, who had rushed at the scene of crime a few moments after the trio had escaped and later reported the matter at Neissut police post.
The accused, the prosecution added were arrested alongside others whom the court acquainted due to lack of sufficient evidence, a few days after intensive investigations by police.
