Naivasha has become the latest county to be affected by cholera outbreak with three people being admitted at the Naivasha District Hospital. Sub County Medical Superintendent Oren Ombiro said the three cases reported on Thursday were from Kihoto area.
Ombiro added that a Cholera Treatment Unit has been set up in the area and currently the situation under control. “We have received the three who are under treatment and in a stable condition. We have however re-launched our anti cholera campaign. On Thursday we were able to reach 3366 people in Kihoto where we issued 5000 aquatabs to the residents. We were also able to give prophylaxis treatment to 300 people,” he said.
Ombiro noted that Kihoto, Mia Mahiu, Karagita, Kabati, Council and Kayole as the major hotspots in the area. “We are currently carrying out survey in this area to ensure that the disease does not spread. We have also been disinfecting the area to prevent any spread of the disease. We are also utilizing our youths here in anti cholera campaigns to ensure that the awareness messages reaches everyone,” he cited.
Lakeview Member of county assembly Simon Wanyoike Wanango cautioned residents to be careful in their consumption. “We are calling on our residents to ensure that they maintain proper hygiene and to report incase of any suspected case of cholera,” he cited
