Three infants are reported to have died in Machakos District Hospital, amidst doctors' strike in Machakos County that entered the second day on Monday.
The strike has completely paralysed the delivery of services in the hospital.
According to the County Chairperson of the Doctors' Union Halima Adan and her Medical Services counterpart Jeremiah Mutunga, who addressed the media on Monday, the County Government has not been making the statutory deductions as required.
"We have worked for that money. Why is the county government not remitting the NHIF money? It is causing members a lot of trouble,” said Adan.
“You admit your next of kin to hospital but NHIF cannot clear your bill because money wasn't remitted,” added Adan.
“We have been blacklisted by NHIF and NSSF because we are in their bad books, just because our money has not been forwarded,” said Mutunga.
Senator Johnstone Muthama has supported the striking doctors, saying that the county government must meet their demands.
"For two years the statutory deductions have not been made for any worker and remitted where they ought to,” added the Senator.
