Unknown attackers on Monday night ambushed residents in Ushindi area, Likoni, leaving three people with serious injuries. Confirming the incident, Likoni police boss Benjamin Rotich said security officers have launched a manhunt for the suspects behind the attack, adding that no arrests have made in relation to the incident.“We have launched investigations to unravel what could be the motive of the attack. No arrests have been made so far,” said Rotich. The 50-member gang is said to have carried out the attack at around 8pm.The three victims of the night attack were taken to the Coast General Hospital where they were treated and discharged.A witness quoted by Baraka FM said the attackers were armed with different crude weapons including clubs and machetes.“They were armed with machetes and clubs and asked for our identity cards before attacking the victims,” said the witness, as quoted by the local daily. Police quickly responded to the incident forcing the attackers, who did not steal anything, to escape in the alleys of Likoni. According to Baraka FM, police have refuted claims that the attack was carried out by the Watalia and Wakali Kwanza gangs, arguing that the attack could be linked to Thursday’s repeat presidential election. The motive of the attack, however, remains unclear.
