The children have been identified as Edin Shama (5 years old), Asiba Haji (4 years old), and Mohamed Shama (3 years old).

The fourth kid is suffering from severe body wounds and has been identified as Rayaan Abdulahi (4years old). He is currently recuperating at the Elwak level IV hospital.

Local residents said the children were playing on the outskirts of their village when the raid transpired.

Mandera Governor Ali Roba said in a tweet that the four children were killed by KDF officers as they engaged the Al-Shabaab militia in Elram village.

“Indiscriminate engagement by KDF and leading to loss of innocent civilians is unacceptable,” stated Roba.

Through its spokesperson, Colonel David Obonyo, KDF has distanced itself from the Tuesday incident noting that none of the KDF's military’s aircraft left the grounds for aerial operations.
