The death toll from last evening’s accident in Kisumu has risen to three after two others died while undergoing treatment at Port Florence Hospital.
Nyanza traffic coordinator Joshua Omukata said one person died in the accident involving a lorry, a pick-up truck and a canter along the Kisumu-Busia road.
Omukata said the lorry driver lost control and first rammed into the pick up before hitting the canter that was carrying a catering team.
“The lorry was from Maseno side towards Kisumu when the brakes failed. It first hit the pick-up in front and veered off the road then it hit the canter and both rolled and overturned,” he said.
He said nobody was injured in the pick up truck in the 8pm incident at Kisian trading centre.
Omukata said two others are still admitted at the hospital in a critical condition while six others were treated and discharged.
‘Those injured were rushed to various hospitals in Kisumu but we lost two at Port Florence hospital where two others are still battling for their lives,” he said.
Addressing the press in Kisumu, Omukata cautioned motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good condition.
He said investigations are on course following the accident.
‘It is very unfortunate that we lost three people as we prepare to cross over to the year 2015. Motorists should ensure that their vehicles are in good condition to avoid such deaths,’ he said.
