Residents of Miranga village in Seme constituency on Monday morning flushed out three suspected thugs from their houses and lynched two.
The third suspect survived but with serious injuries and was rushed to the nearest hospital by family members.
East Seme Member of County Assembly Aggrey Ogosi confirmed that the three were attacked in their houses by a vigilante group over suspicion for a spate of robberies within the area.
Ogosi said stolen household goods were recovered in their houses thus occasioning their deaths.
“The three have been suspected of robbing locals, breaking into houses. Locals have reported the matter to the police but no arrests have been made,” he said.
He reported that the local chief last night called the police to come and save the situation but they failed to respond.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu, Ogosi said locals decided to take the law into their hands after the local authorities failed to assist them.
He however warned the public against taking law into their hands and urged them to always arrest suspects and hand them over to the police.
“It is in law that you can only arrest and hand over to the police, don’t kill before proven guilty. It is against the law to kill,” he said.
Ogosi further told young people to desist from criminal activities and engage in meaningful ventures.
