A Mombasa court has sentenced three men to life in prison after they were found guilty of defilement.Isaac Musambi, Mutingo Kimeu and Onesmus Mbuvi were on Tuesday found guilty of defiling a 10-year-old girl and infecting her with HIV.The fourth suspect, Komu Muthini, was found guilty of attempted defilement, and will serve a 20-year sentence. The prosecution told the court that the suspects separately committed the offence on diverse dates between January 2015 and April 2016 at Moroto slums, though the victim was unable to give the exact dates. A report from the doctor showed that the girl had been defiled on several occassions. The court heard that the accused used different techniques to lure the girl into the act including exposing her to erotic content and buying her sweets. The girl's teacher said the 10-year-old showed signs of physical abuse and mental torture before she discovered blood in her underwear, adding that she used to take long whenever she visited the washroom. In his ruling, Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate Edigah Kagoni faulted the girl's mother for neglecting her child, adding that the young required protection and not abuse.“When I look at the four of you I see energetic men who seem to have not gone through a lot. I am convinced the society does not need you anymore and I find compelling reasons to sentence you to life behind the bars,” said Magistrate Kagoni, as quoted by Baraka FM.
