Police have arrested three of the most wanted terror suspects in Malindi following a crackdown. 

Inspector General of police Joseph Boinnet has confirmed the arrest of the three who are believed to be liked to ISIS.

The first suspect, Ali Hussein Ali, alias Trusted One, is accused of human smuggling and financing terror activities.

Ali has also been linked to other militia groups including al-Shabaab and Libya's Magafe Human trafficking network.

The suspect was arrested on March 27 in Malindi alongside Abdi Mohamed Yusuf aka Dader (long distance driver and his personal driver) and Ibrahim Abasheikh Muktar (businessman/ landlord in Watamu). 

Boinett said Ali was among the members of the millitia group facilitating the recruitment of Kenyans and Somali to join ISIS.

“Ali played a key role in facilitating the travel of recruits from Kenya and Somalia to join ISIS in Libya as well as facilitating illegal immigrants enter Europe,” said Boinnet, as quoted by the Standard. 

The inspector also said that Ali masterminded the movement of money across various nations in line with the terror group before reaching Libya.

“On arrival in Libya, the recruits and illegal immigrants are detained by Magafe and would be released on payment of between Sh250,000 and Sh700,000 which is later transferred through hawalas in Kenya to Mogadishu and later to ISIS, “ he added.

Ali and Mukhtar are said to have been housing an unidentified number of immigrants in different areas within Eastleigh and Malindi before moving them to work for the terror group in various places in Libya, Syria and European nations. 

The trio had a Sh2 million bounty on their heads before the arrest.
