Three people have been nabbed with illicit liquor at Matungulu in Machakos County.
A woman and her two sons were arrested with 500 litres of unused ethanol, 50 litres of used ethanol and over 400 cartons of assorted counterfeit spirits in Tala Market on Friday night.
The arrests were effected at a raid conducted by NACADA officers headed by Amos Warui.
Warui said the exercise involved multi agencies from different various government departments.
He said the crackdown follows orders issued by the Interior CS Fred Matiangi when he launched the fight against illicit brew on March 1, 2018.
“Together with Kenya Bureau of Standards, Kenya Revenue Authority, Ministry of Health, Anti Counterfeit Authority, Ministry of Interior and Kenya Police, we have made a major swoop and nabbed three suspects found in possession of illegal brewery and counterfeit spirits," Warui said.
Warui said they conducted the arrests based on a tip off.
He addressed the press in Tala town on Saturday.
Warui said the packed drinks didn't contain Kenya bureau of Standards stickers.
Kangundo police boss Samuel Anampiu confirmed the arrests stating that the suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday after a charge sheet has been prepared.
He said the suspects were held at Kangundo Police Station.
Anampiu said the crackdown will continue to curtail the supply of illicit brews in Matungulu Sub County.
