Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers killed three poachers last night and recovered one magazine and eight rounds of ammunition at oldonyo sabuk conservancy in kilimambogo area of Thika sub county within Kiambu county.
Thika Deputy County commissioner, Mr. Jeremiah Gicheru confirmed that one suspected poacher escaped with gunshot wounds and is still at large but the security personnel are tracking him down.
Speaking to the press on Sunday morning, the officer said that he had intended to kill animals in the park but were spotted by officers before they acted. The market of the poachers is yet to be ascertained and said security personnel have launched investigations to bring an end to the animal meat and ivory sale.
Gicheru told the press that there was a fierce fighting between the KWS rangers and the poachers who were armed appealed to members of the public to volunteer information to members of the public that will assist arrest the wounded poacher.
He went ahead to warn poachers that the government will firmly deal with them, saying that poaching is a threat to conservation efforts. He said that they will find the culprit who escaped and make him face the law.
The three were taken to general kago funeral home awaiting identification.
