Mombasa County Environment CeC Tendai Lewa has said three popular night clubs in Nyali risk facing closure for breaching the law.
Sheba Lounge, The Lounge and Zenix Lounge, which are said to be frequented by rich revelers, risk having their liquour licenses suspended.
This comes after residents in the area complained of loud music from the clubs, terming them as a nuisance.
Mr Lewa, who is a committee member in the department of Tourism Development and Culture, drafted a letter to the Liquor Licensing Board on October 25, asking them to suspend the clubs' licenses.
Mombasa County Director of Communications Richard Chacha has called for a meeting between county officials and the licensing board to resolve the matter.
“They have breached the law, but Mr Lewa has not suspended the license of the joints, because the law does not give him such powers,” said Chacha, as quoted by The Nation.
However, owners of the clubs have objected the move saying it will kill business in the region, which is considered as an economic hub.
