Three persons risk jail after they were found in possession of ballot papers. The trio; Ms Cecilia Kimeu, Mr Boniface Nzyoka and Mr Stephen Omondi appeared before a Machakos Court on Thursday to respond to charges leveled against them.
The suspects who were allegedly found with the papers in Athi River risk being jailed over election malpractice. They appeared before Machakos Senior Resident Magistrate Kipkurui Kibellion but they could not take plea.
The controversy surrounding the ballot papers is expected to affect different election results including governorship, Senate, Women rep and Members of Parliament among others. The three will appear in court today Friday.
In the meantime, Justice Aggrey Muchelule ordered the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) under the chairmanship of Wafula Chebukati to avail all election materials used on August 8.
Former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti wants Governor Alfred Mutua’s win’s nullified, citing illegalities and irregularities. The vocal politician has maintained that Mutua’s win does not reflect the will of the Kenya people. She has exuded confidence that the court will rule in her favor when that time comes.
Mutua bagged the seat after garnering 249,954 votes against Ndeti's 209,233 votes.
