Three suspected thugs were on Sunday morning shot dead at Bamburi area in Mombasa following a botched robbery at an M-PESA shop.

The three were gunned down shortly before raiding the shop that had just been opened.

Police say they acted after a tip off from members of the public.

Kisauni OCPD Christopher Rotich confirmed the incident assuring residents law enforcers will ensure security in the area prevails.

“We received information of a planned robbery and we dispatched officers in time. It remains our duty to ensure security is maintained here and beyond,” he said.

Rotich thanked members of the public for cooperating with the police.

He said police-public collaboration and information sharing is the surest way through which lawlessness can be fought against.

The attempted robbery occurred two months after suspected thugs raided an M-PESA shop in Bamburi and successfully made away with Sh40,000.

The operator of the M-Pesa shop was injured during the raid.
