Dominic Gicheru, the county chief of staff said the county of Kiambu had rolled out a county-wide inspection of all buildings to ensure the safety of Kiambu residents.

“I call on constructors to be prudent enough and avoid wasting resources on shoddy buildings built without full adherence to the set rules and regulations,” said Gicheru.

He said the county would demolish all unprofessionally built buildings as they posed a big danger to the public.

He said, “The county has noted over eight buildings that are unprofessionally built and has ruled they be demolished immediately.”

The collapsed building had developed serious cracks on the ground floor and the occupants had been ordered to vacate.

He said investigations had been launched to look into how the building was built adding that the owner may be asked to bring it down.
