Police in Kisumu killed three suspected gangsters on Friday night and recovered a number of weapons from them.
The officers recouped an AK47 rifle, a browning pistol, two pangas and impounded a stolen car.
According to the County commissioner Mohamed Maalim, a good samaritan tipped the officers about the suspects and trailed them from Kisumu town.
“The criminals were said to be targeting an Mpesa shop in Maseno area,” he said on Saturday.
One of the suspects escaped during the fierce shoot out at 9.30pm at Desnol petrol station on the Kisumu-Bondo road, where the suspects had stopped their motor vehicle.
They started firing at police officers, who shot back, killing three.
Their bodies were taken to Jaramogi Oginga referral hospital mortuary.
