Police in Naivasha have said that the three suspects that were nabbed near Naivasha GK Maximum Prison along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway transporting un-inspected meat will give useful information.
According to police, the three, who included a taxi driver, will lead to unravel the cartel behind the sale of suspicious meat in the area and beyond.
During last week’s incident, Administration Police officers together with Naivasha Sub-county Public Health officers nabbed two slaughtered cattle and a carcass of a donkey.
The officers confiscated a taxi used to ferry the meat, which was packaged in plastic bags as a second vehicle fled from the scene.
The suspects openly admitted to the trade, adding that there was a ready market in Nairobi's Burma market, which is a popular nyama choma joint.
They were later beaten and left for dead by irate members of the public, before police officers came to their rescue.
Naivasha Sub-county Public Health Officer Caroline Vata, who visited the scene called for a manhunt of a popular Naivasha trader who is the mastermind of the illegal trade.
“It is a matter of days before we get those involved with the business, and we appeal to residents to buy meat at authorized meat centers,” she added.
