Three Tanzanian have been charged at a Mombasa court for allegedly trafficking heroin worth Sh30 million.
Othmani Hamisi, Mwenda Hamisi and Hussein Massoud, however, pleaded not guilty before Senior Principal Magistrate Janet Kassam.
They were arrested after being found with 10.22 kilograms of the hard drug hidden in suitcases they were carrying at the Lunga Lunga border in Kwale County on Friday.
Police said the three were on their way to Mombasa where they had intended to sell the drug from.
Kassam is expected to rule on their bond application on Tuesday next week.
The value of the heroin has earlier on been put at Sh90 million but was later reviewed to Sh30 million.
On Saturday, Coast Regional Coordinator Bernard Leparmarai said over 200,000 people would have consumed the drug adding that their lives would have completely been affected as a result.
HYe said there are plans to introduce sniffer dogs along the Kenya-Tanzania border to help tame the rising cases of drug trafficking.
Coast region is among regions leading in drug trafficking and consumption in Kenya.
Most drug traffickers take advantage of the extensive Coast line along the Indian Ocean to import the drug that has ruined million of lives in the region.
