Nakuru town is the fourth largest urban center in the nation after Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.
It has since been earmarked for a city status, raising excitement among residents and leaders.
Nakuru, however, has a number of challenges that could hinder the promotion.
Here are some of them;
1. A tiny CBD
The Nakuru town Central Business District is the smallest as compared to all of the other towns in the same category.
Running from the Mburu Gichua Avenue to the Westend Mall, an about 120-metre distance and another 300 down to the Oginga Odinga Avenue, this is tiny for a town headed the city way.
This, however, is a plus for visitors as they don't have to spend a lot of effort to reach their destinations within the CBD.
2. Only two major roads
The town has only two busy avenues, this being Kenyatta and Mburu Gichua.
The remaining one, Oginga Odinga Avenue, is located to the southern end of the CBD where no major business takes place, making it isolated and less active.
3. Quarter of the CBD consist of hotels and parks
Nakuru town is home to some of the best hotels in the country.
One of the hotels, the Rift Valley Sports Club, one of the largest in Nakuru, is located in the town center.
Nyayo and Lion Gardens have also 'eaten' a piece of the town.
This means that Nakuru has to work extra hard in preparation for the promotion.
