Three suspects were gunned down, as four others escaped with injuries during a failed robbery attempt along Nairobi–Nakuru highway.
The midnight incident occurred within Pipeline area where a truck driver ferrying 10 tons of iron sheets from Nairobi was attacked by the gang men.
According to the driver, Laban Kamutu, his truck was blocked by a saloon car which emerged from the opposite direction and seven armed gangsters pounced on them.
“One of the gangsters hit the windscreen of the lorry forcing me and my conductor to jump out of the vehicle where they attacked us with crude weapons,” he said.
According to Nakuru police boss, Bernard Kioko, the driver sustained head injuries after he refused to comply with their orders while the conductor was cut on the right hand.
“The two are currently recuperating at the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital as the suspects made away with a phone and Sh 2200,” said Kioko.
Kioko added that police officers rushed to the scene where they managed to gun down three of the suspects amongst them a lady.
The bodies were taken to the Nakuru County mortuary awaiting identification and post-mortem as police officers continue to conduct investigations.
