Three men were on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment after they were found guilty by a Kitale Court of robbing a man a torch worth Sh250.

Mr Dan Chebus, Mr Isaac Naibei and Mr Micah Kibet were facing charges of robbery with violence.

The three are said to have committed the offence on May 2011 at Cheptandan farm where they robbed Mr Bernard Ngeiywa a torch valued at Sh250 while armed with an AK-47.

The court heard that on the material date, the complainant was accosted by the gang while he was walking home.

The accused persons then ordered him to lay down but he refused and they shot him in the stomach.

The court heard after the attack, Mr Ngeiywa screamed and people from nearby homes came to his rescue and rushed him to Cherangany Nursing home for treatment.

After police investigations, the police managed to arrest the three and the spent cartridge recovered from the scene of the crime which was taken to Nairobi for ballistic investigation was discovered to have been fired from the rifle which was found in their possession.

Kitale Principal Magistrate M.I.G Moranga in his ruling found the accused guilty saying the prosecution has proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Magistrate Moranga, however, gave the three accused persons 14 days to appeal the ruling.
