Police in Kikuyu arrested 3 women at Zambezi who are alleged illicit brew suppliers in the area. Confirming the incident, Kikuyu police boss Mutune Maweu said that the hunt for the three has been long overdue as they have been avoiding arrest.
“The police were able to arrest three women who are suspected to be owners of dens where illicit brew is manufactured at Zambezi and supplying it to other regions in the sub county,” said Maweu. The police destroyed the dens where chang’aa was prepared as many residents; especially women had reported cases of many young men having got lost in the business.
“They are the ones who prepare the illicit brew and supply it during the night,” Maweu said.
He noted the menace had taken root in the area in past few months and was rapidly growing. “I want to assure residents of the area that we are working to curb illicit brew crisis in the area. The brews are wasting a lot of men and also youths,” he said. Speaking after the incident, Margaret Njoromi said that she was glad that police were working to ensure illicit brew was wiped out of the area.
