Women have been showing more interest in leadership positions and it seems they are no longer cowed by their male counterparts. Here are three women who could be breaking the Kenyan history by becoming the first woman president.

Martha Karua

Martha has been in politics for long enough and the experience she has had has ironed her to be anything she wants. Her boldness and no-nonsense attitude have seen her earn the title "iron lady". She is admired by many for her courage and integrity and she is hardly associated with scandals making her stand out from other leaders with questionable integrity. When she means to do it, nothing pulls Karua back-not even her male counterparts. Martha has been a minister, an MP and once vied for the presidential post but lost. Last year, Karua ran for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial post but lost to Anne Waiguru who is the current governor.

Charity Ngilu

Ngilu is the current governor of Kitu County. Ngilu too has been in politics for quite some time and clearly understands the rules of the game. She is also a courageous woman and has at times had her boldness land her in trouble. In terms of delivery, Ngilu is known to be a hard worker and we can already see what she is doing to transform Kitui. Her experience in leadership combined with her boldness is quality armaments to help her battle the presidential race.

Anne Waiguru

Although she has not been in politics for so long, she has massive influence and she attracts multitudes. Waiguru is also keen to deliver services to wananchi although she has been accused of corruption. It is to be remembered that Waiguru brought lots of developments when she was the Cabinet secretary for devolution such as the Huduma centres that have made it easy for Kenyans to access public services. Although a lot of money was lost during her tenure, that did not prevent her from becoming the current Governor of Kirinyaga County. Waiguru also enjoys the backing of president Uhuru which could easily enable her to become the next president of Kenya.
