'Exiles' is almost a cliche in most universities. The word is mostly used by a colleague to signal the rest of his roommates that he/she has a visitor and not just a visitor but a lover whom they needed privacy to enjoy good times together.
Callon Chumba, a student at an Eldoret university says there are three days that a roommate should avoid exiling his/her roommates.
According to Chumba, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are the worst days of the week to be exiled by a roommate.
"These three days are messy and always have casualties if exiled," said the university student who admits that those three days most students are in school and it is always hard to get a place to 'crash to'.
Chumba, however, says the other three days would be less hectic if exiled as most students are usually away on the weekends and Fridays, some traveling home and others partying.
“Even though exiles are common in universities, terms and conditions always apply before one is granted a chance,” added Susan, another university student.
She says one must inform roommates in advance before exile is allowed saying "the frequency one exiles their roommates is among a key agenda too."
If granted chance to exile roommates, overstaying is not allowed and breaching that regulation always attracts penalties.
