The growing number of politicians in Garissa County who have since expressed interest in various elective posts leaves one wondering whether it is actually the growth of democracy or just but urge to satisfy political greed.
So far, over 50 individuals have hinted on contesting for the slots of MCA in the larger Garissa County. But what confuses most is the fact that political rejects from as far as Meru and Nyeri are trickling in to add up with the local politicians who have already started enticing locals with goodies in exchange of votes come 2017.
But as Bayard Rustin once said, if we desire to have a society of peace and developments, then it can never be achieved through discrimination.
To be true to this philosopher, these politicians ought to be welcomed and given a chance to sell their manifestos and at the same time, local residents should closely monitor their deals.
Vateran politicians should not be allowed to own the elective positions but should stay aside and groom the younger generations to take lead in county affairs.
It is now upon locals, especially the youths, to arm themselves with their voting credentials in readiness for the 2017 election exercise.
