A man was this morning seriously injured by residents of Kithimani market in Yatta Sub County after he was caught breaking into a shop.
The man who was in the company of a gang of three which had broken into one of the shops in the market through the roof was unable to escape after residents surrounded him. Two of his companions escaped without injuries after residents ambushed them.
The man was beaten by angry residents who later burnt him together with the goods he had stolen. He sustained serious injuries from the fire in which residents had thrown him.
Kithimani OCPD Peter Mbua confirmed the incident saying that the victim was at first admitted at Matuu Level 4 hospital where he was given first aid. The victim was later transferred to Thika Level 5 hospital to receive further treatment.
He argued resident to report any incidents of crime to the police instead of administering mob justice to crime suspects.
Mbua said that police have launched a manhunt for the two robbers who escaped and urged residents to cooperate with the police in trucking the two thugs.
