A thug was on Wednesday morning attacked and killed by angry residents after he had been ambushed while robbing a trader in Matuu sub-county.
The victim was among six thugs who had attacked the trader and escaped with Sh10,000.
After the residents learned about the thugs, they raised an alarm and ambushed the thugs. Five thieves managed to escape as one was cornered by the residents.
Yatta police boss Edward Kipsang confirmed the incident and said that the police have launched investigations into the matter.
“The thugs invaded the trader in the morning and the residents raised alarm and five thugs managed to escape,” said Kipsang.
The OCPD urged residents not to take laws into their hands.
“I urge all the residents to surrender all the suspects to the police and to avoid taking laws into their arms. We are committed to ensure law and order is maintained and we will increase our patrols during the night to avoid such instances in the future.”
The body of the victim was taken to Matuu nursing home.
