A middle aged man has been gunned down by police in a botched robbery in Kisii town.
Police said the deceased was killed when he attempted to rob an Mpesa agent at Daraja Mbili area in Kisii County on Friday.
Confirming the incident, Kisii Central deputy OCS Abdo Abdala said two of the deceased's accomplices escaped with gun wounds during the shoot out.
Abdala said the thugs were armed with a home made gun and crude weapons.
"Our officers were tipped by some of the residents, they acted on time and managed to gun down one of the suspects while two others flew with gunshot injuries," Abdala said.
Abdala said that police intercepted the thugs before they attacked the agent, nothing was stolen from the Mpesa shop.
He thanked the locals for supporting the police to fight crime which he said had been on the rise in the area.
Abdala said the deceased was not immediately identified since he did not have any identification document on him during the incident.
