Two people died on the spot while another two died while receiving treatment in hospital after they were attacked by gang men in a robbery incident in Kuria East, Migori.
The gang men also injured five others during the robbery that was executed on various shops in town.
Ntimaru town businessman Thomas Mwita was shot in the head after trying to recover his wife's money and a mobile phone which had been taken by the gang men.
After successfully carrying out their mission, the armed robbers are reported to have escaped on foot to a nearby bush which is said to be the Kenya-Tanzania boarder.
Kuria East OCPD Patrick Lobolia confirmed the incident and said that the thugs could have been planning for the attack for sometime because they appeared to know their targets well.
Another eye witness said the gang had been spotted earlier putting on police jackets and had patrolled the area in the morning hours before coming back in the evening to rob and kill business people.
Residents are now calling upon the government to provide more security and speed up investigation to bring to book the criminals.
