The Daily Nation reports that the thugs who were armed with metal bars accessed the depot after breaking the main gate.

The bodies of the two watchmen were found dumped in a tiny room by workers who were reporting for duty at the facility early on Thursday.

There was blood at the scene of the brutal murder and the guards' clothes and other belongings were scattered on the floor.

Western region criminal investigations coordinator Ambrose Munyasia who toured the scene said police were on patrol near the Nakumatt Supermarket but could not detect the robbery as the gangsters had locked themselves in the building after committing the murder.

Munyasia who was with the Kakamega County Police Commander Tito Kilonzo urged residents with information that could help them nab the suspects to contact the police.

He added that police have intensified patrols in the town and other parts of the county in efforts to boost security.

“We are asking the public to go about their businesses without fear since we are doing everything possible to ensure the suspects are arrested and charged,” said Munyasia as quoted by the Daily Nation.
