Police have launched investigations into an incident in which thugs raided the home of Nairobi Regional Coordinator Thuku Kang'ethe and stole an AK47 rifle from one of the Administration Police officer manning the gate.
The raiders are said to have hit the officer with a wooden bar injuring him on the head during the incident which happened at 4am Tuesday. Thuku was at home at the time of the raid.
Flying Squad officers and senior police officers were called to the scene shortly after the attack.
The injured officer said the raiders entered the home through a hole drilled under the stone wall that surrounds Thuku's home.
The officer was along during the attack making it difficult to establish the authenticity of his statement. His colleague who was to be with him at the assignment had excused himself and had gone to bed. The officer returned to the assignment 30 minutes after the raid.
Detectives at the scene of the incident said the hole under the wall is too small for an adult human being to pass through.
Another group of officers in the neighbourhood said they did not hear any sound to imply the raiders were breaking the wall. The officer whose gun was taken away did not raise an alarm during the attack.
Nairobi Directorate of Criminal Investigations head Ireri Kamwende said investigations into the raid have begun and those responsible will be brought to book.
