Thugs on Sunday night shot and injured a man who was guarding a home belonging to a Chinese family in Nairobi.

Police said the thugs caught the security guard unaware, wrestled him to the ground before tying his legs and hands.

They gained access to the house where the man was guarding before breaking into one of the bedrooms which had cash.

Nairobi police commander Japheth Koome said the robbers vanished with about Sh800,000, and electronics including laptops and new phones.

He said the Chinese family, said to be running a string of electronic shops in Nairobi was not at home by the time the incident happened.

The thugs shot the security guard on the right leg before leaving the home located in Karen.

Koome said officer from the Criminal Investigations Directorate are in pursuit of the robbers. The injured security guard who is admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital has recorded a statement with the police.

Karen is a posh estate in Nairobi that is domiciled by mainly high profile businessmen, politicians and diplomats.
