Armed gangsters disguised as parents stole more than Sh150,000 from authorities at Mount St Mary’s girls primary school in Molo at gunpoint on Monday.
Several parents who had turned up for the opening day of third term also fell victims of the daylight robbery with some losing cash, phones among other variables.
Sources from the school confirmed that the gunmen, armed with a pistol and another an Ak47 riffle, ordered everyone to lie down before ordering the school cashiers, school staff and parents to give out all the money in their possession.
Molo police boss Kieti Makau said police officers are following crucial leads and have since apprehended two suspects with six phones and Sh37,000 stolen from the victims of the robbery in their possession.
The DCIO said the two were arrested after committing an accident on the busy Nakuru-Eldoret highway as they tried to escape from police on patrol.
Mr Kieti said victims of the robbery flocked to Molo police station and identified their phones. He called on residents to frontier with information to enable police decimate the rising criminal activities in Molo.
The DCIO intimated that police were trailing the gunmen on the loose and would soon have them behind bars.
In a separate incident, two passengers were shot dead by armed gunmen who hijacked a Nissan matatu and drove it into a thicket where they robbed travellers of their money before shooting two on Saturday.
