A security guard was on Tuesday night killed by unknown people in Nyabite market of Nyamira South sub county.
The guard identified police as John Ondieki was on his night shift securing a shop belonging to a Ondicho, businessman in the area.
The assailants knocked the guard on his head killing him instantly before making away with unknown amount of money and goods.
According to the shop owner, he lost over eighty thousand shillings and airtime scratch cards of unknown value.
Nyamira South Administration Police Commander Saidi Ndiema said they have launched investigation into the killing of the guard.
He said security in Nyamira is stable.
Ndiema urged the business community to employ night guards to take care of one shop so as they can easily coordinate in case of an attack.
The slain guard is said to have been monitoring over seven shops making it difficult to raise alarm.
His body was taken to the Nyamira Level 4 Hospital awaiting postmortem examinations.
