Four months after Thwake bridge was destroyed during the heavy El-nino rains late last year, Kathiani and Kangundo residents have something to smile about after the reconstruction of Thwake bridge was completed on Thursday afternoon.
This is after the national government allocated funds through Kathiani member of parliament Robert Mbui to reconstruct the bridge.
The crumbling of Thwake Bridge had caused an uproar from locals, wanted the county government to move swiftly and fix it.
Located barely two kilometres from Kathiani town, which is both the commercial and administrative capital of Kathiani sub-county, the bridge facilitates public transport and movement of goods between Kangundo and Kathiani.
Speaking to some of the residents they expressed their joy over the national government keeping its promises.
However, these residents who blamed the collapsing of the bridge to rampant and uncontrolled sand harvesting activities in River Thwake wanted the Local administrators to avoid siding with sand transporters by taking bribes.
Illegal sand harvesting was banned in Kathiani sub-county early this year by the area MP Robert Mbui.
