(Photo/Star)About 55 livestock have died in Titila Adhe in Tana River county from anaplasmosis, a disease transmitted by the blue tick, Wayu Deputy county administrator Ali Tulicha has said. Tulicha said local elders and the area chief alerted the county of the outbreak following the strange symptoms."The animals were weak since the area has no good pasture and water, we suspect that the animals were attacked by the blue tick that transmits the disease," said Tulicha. The administrator noted that a veterinary team has been sent to the area to study the nature of the disease and suggest the preventive measures to be put in place.Tulicha urged herders in the area to report to the relevant authorities whenever they notice any strange symptoms on their animals so that preventive measures are taken to curb any disease outbreak. "As the region receives rains, it is likely that outbreak of diseases may be at a high rate. Herders should be alert and report any case to veterinary officers to take early preventive measures to avoid deaths of livestock," said Tulicha.
