Mombasa constituencies are increasingly beginning to attract attention not only in Mombasa County but across the country.
Most constituencies have attracted seasoned and deep-pocketed politicians and Kenyans should expect bruising battles as the men and women plunge into the ring in the scramble for elective seats in the region.
In Kisauni, seating MP Rashid Bedzimba will face off with re-known businessman Ali Mbogo.
The race will be a battle of the titans owing to the popularity the two enjoy in Kisauni and across Mombasa.
Bedzimba, defending his seat on an ODM party ticket, is a close ally of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and the fact that he easily sailed through during the ODM party primaries recently means he already has Joho’s blessings.
He has also been instrumental in campaigning for the opposition National Super Alliance and ODM party leader Raila Odinga in Mombasa and other Coastal counties.
In almost all rallies Raila has addressed in Mombasa since 2013, Bedzimba, alongside Joho were in his company.
He is seen as an asset for the opposition especially at a time the country is gearing up for high-voltage campaigns in the run up to the August 8 elections.
Mbogo on the other hand is a close ally of Mr Odinga.
During Raila’s last visit to the United Kingdom, Mbogo was among a handful of politicians who accompanied the opposition chief to the European nation- sparking speculation that Raila would directly front him for the Nyali MP seat.
The trip sent shockwaves across the county with Bedzimba himself forced to make a statement over it. He said Mr Mbogo enjoyed minimal support in Kisauni and that his association with Raila would not sway voters.
What is interesting, however, is that the two are jostling for the MP seat on the ticket of two prominent parties forming NASA.
Bedzimba is flying the ODM party ticket while Mbogo is a Wiper party candidate.
Both parties in any of the constituencies in Mombasa have the capacity to make one win an election, Mombasa being a NASA stronghold.
It will be upon voters to decide on who among the two has their best interests at heart with the ability to effectively represent them in Parliament.
