Jubilee Party in Kajiado County will have an uphill task in choosing a gubernatorial candidate for next year’s elections.
The move follows the endorsement on Saturday of businessman George Kong’ori by Kikuyu council of elders who is eyeing the top county seat.
According to the Star, King'ori and two ward rep hopefuls were taken through Gikuyu cultural rituals as the media was kept off.
The four-hour ceremony was held near Rangers Resort in Kitengela.
King'ori who addressed journalists after the event said he’s now a 'complete elder', having been handed a stool, a walking stick and a fly whisk.
“I have now been blessed to face my opponents. I will be playing a fair game and am appealing to them to follow suit. I will be ready to support whoever wins and I'm also telling them to accept defeat if I win,” said King’ori as quoted by the Star.
“Kajiado is a cosmopolitan county and everyone is free to vote or contest any seat. We have been here long to understand the geography of this great county. It is time the people of this region accept meaningful changes in its political leadership,” he added.
If he wins the JP ticket, he will face the incumbent, ODM’s David Nkedianye for the coveted post.
Other candidates eyeing the seat on the JP party are former Interior minister Joseph Lenku, Kenya Meat Commission chairman Tarayia Kores, Daniel Nina and Solomon Kinyanjui.
