Security measures have been put in place in Kisumu at the wake of a terror alert and as Kenyans celebrate the Easter holiday.
County Commissioner John Elungata said on Thursday that the officers have intensified patrols in the city.
Mr Elungata said officers in plain clothes have been dispatched for day and night patrols in the city.
He urged faithful who will be going to churches and shoppers that their security is guaranteed.
“We have a detailed security team that will ensure that Kisumu is safe during this long holiday. I want to appeal to the locals to give valuable information that can better security,” he said.
Addressing the press after holding a security meeting with the county team, Elungata warned officers’ abetting crime in the county.
He said that selling illicit liquor remains outlawed, warning that officers found to be aiding illicit brewers and sellers will be prosecuted.
The commissioner said the fight against illicit liquor will not stop until the vice is trampled out.
“We will deal firmly with those selling illicit brews, let them be warned that we are coming for them,” he said.
Elungata lauded the public for volunteering information aimed at stabilising security situation in the lakeside city.
